SWDA Training Information
SWDA trains year round, rain or shine with club training often times twice a week. Additional training days are scheduled based on club members needs and up coming events.
Saturday Training consists of all three phases of schutzhund training. Club Members meet for Tracking in the fields of Bakersfield , Lancaster or Palmdale followed by Obedience and Protection Training at the SWDA Club Field.
We train every dog and handler based on their needs and goals. From pets to national competition dogs and handlers we work to make the best of the "team".
The "proof" of good training is in the trial results.
Our members have made more than 40 "V"scores (V = excellence) in at least one phase of a trial (see SWDA "V"Team page). We have had 11 of our dogs and handlers become members of the USA SchH 3 Club (BH -SchH 3). Some of our members also have the USA Sports Medals (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Master).
Each year since 2002 we have qualified at least two dogs for the USA National Championship. SWDA has had an entry in at least two National Events (USA German Shepherd Dog Championships. North American Championship or National Championship) every year since 2002. We have had as many as four members entered in every Southwest Regional Championship since 2001.
SWDA Members have won the 2002 Universal Sieger title. the Southwest Regional Championship 2 times (2002 & 2007) Regional Champion, second place (vice champion 2009) and in the top 6 at 3 additional Regional Championships and the Schutzhund "Les Femmes"(hosted by AWDA). Members have been entered in every Southwest Regional Championship since 2001, the Rocky Mountain Region Championship and the New England Regional Championship. SWDA Members have competed at most of the clubs in the Southwest Region earning titles, placing High in Trial, High Tracking,Obedience, Protection or High Schutzhund 1, 2 or 3.
Schutzhund Training is a long process and with many enthusiasts it becomes a "lifestyle". To succeed it is important to enjoy training and your fellow club members, so at SWDA on Saturday Training a meal is always provided by a club member to give us a break and allow time to talk and share ideas. Good dogs come and go and unfortunately have a short competition life span but clubs survive because of members and friendships.
