What is USA

Why join USA ?

What is the AWDF

United Schutzhund Clubs of America
Why should I join or remain a United Schutzhund Clubs of America Member ?

Many people wonder why should I be a member of the United Schutzhund Clubs of America. Firstly if you are serious about the working heritage of the German shepherd dog there is simply no other choice.  Article II of the by laws: The objectives of this association shall be to preserve the German Shepherd Dog in accordance with the breed standard as a working dog, to promote humane training methods for the working dog, and to support responsible dog ownership and breeding practices.

No other German shepherd organization in America is dedicated to continue the WORKING heritage of the breed.

The United Schutzhund Clubs of America provides the most trials the most national events and in short the most opportunities to participate in our sport than any other club in the United States.

There are other reasons as well.  The United Schutzhund Clubs of America has the largest number of Judges and its Judging program is both SV and FCI recognized.  Currently the USA has the largest number of active judges at any point in its history.  What does this mean for me as a member?  It means a greater flexibility and reduced costs in hosting a trial.  Obtaining a foreign judge can require more planning and more advanced notice.  USA judges performance ratings are recognized by the SV.

The USA has an internationally recognized trial helper program.  Its opportunities for learning helper work in an organized setting are unequalled.  There is no substitute for safe and consistent helper work in our sport.

The USA is a member club of the AWDF.  USA members get a chance to trial in most AWDF member club performance events.  (Some of the member clubs nationals are restricted for example)  Through the AWDF, our members have an opportunity to compete in international competitions (FCI) for the IPO, IPOFH, RH, Agility, Mondioring, and others our helpers and judges have opportunities to use their talents internationally as they are part of FCI working commission selection pools.

As members of the AWDF, we have a direct working relationship with the FCI working commission..

As AWDF members we have strength of numbers in working against BSL

AWDF is constantly growing, and more opportunities present themselves all of the time.

The USA has an excellent magazine put together by some very hard working volunteers. The quality of the magazine and its content has greatly improved over the last few years. It is very easy to contribute articles to.  It is always an enjoyable read.

USA recognition and awards for local clubs through our General Education Committee's "Good Club Program".

The United Schutzhund Clubs of America has a long history of being the leader in schutzhund in the United States.  Many hard working volunteers have helped it be both progressive in its policies and have a great deal of opportunities for its members.

The United Schutzhund Clubs of America has the opportunities to participate and enjoy our sport.  Schutzhund is a sport that is meant to be participated in with you and your dogs.. Participate with us.
